Lithuania past and present E J 1873 Harrison Books

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
Lithuania past and present E J 1873 Harrison Books
Written by an English diplomat in the years when Lithuanian independence was restored after WWI, this is a very good introduction to Lithuanian history. Harrison provides an outline of the rise of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which spanned from the Baltic to the Black Sea at its peak. This will be interesting for people with some Lithuanian ancestry and people interested in Eastern European history, since these facts are not frequently mentioned in the US public school version of European history. The author provides synopses of royal genealogy, from Gediminas' rise to the rule of western and eastern Lithuania between Kestutis and Algirdas; the liberation of Ukraine from the Golden Horde; the military of alliance with Poland and later union; and a historical summary up to the publishing date. Overall, this is a well researched and concise book, a very good introduction based on Harrison's years of living in Lithuania.

Lithuania past and present E J 1873 Harrison Books Reviews
A good brief description of the history of this country which used to amass large territory in Europe and is now less than 3 million populace. It is well written and concise and I would suggest to any reader interested in learning more about Eastern Europe in general or planning to travel to that region.
Useful to me for history of Lithuanian around 1900's.
Wonderful history of a beautiful country. It arrived on time and as described. Couldn't be more pleased.
I love enjoying Lithuanian past and present in the name like this Lithuanians are proud people
Interesting narrative at an affordable price. Highly recommended as part of a study of the Baltic region and the evidence for the patterns of power coursing through the area.
Old historical info available before 1922 when the book was published, with factual info from the lands of my ancestors...
It only goes up to the 1920s or so. Most of it seemed to be the author experiences. It is not as good on covering the early history of Lithuania. I only got half way through the book when I lost the book on a trip. I won't order another.
